Some videos for you to check out

While in St. Louis a while ago, The American Mustache Institute paid us a visit. They are like the f*cking Gestapo of facial hair. This reminds me... you know who else had a mustache?... Hitler. Hitler had a mustache. Just pointing that out. Anyway, this video is hilarious.

Our friends Jason and Ethan with Eikon Productions have a site up with some excellent videos of bands from Athens and ones just passing through. Below are two of DC's. www.athenssoundies.com

My Old Kentucky Blog had us over for an in-studio session at the Pop Machine. They are hosted on LaundroMatinee with some other great videos of bands, but I have reposted them here for your convenience:

Dead Confederate~The Rat from LaundroMatinee on Vimeo.

Dead Confederate~It Was a Rose from LaundroMatinee on Vimeo.

Dead Confederate~Wrecking Ball from LaundroMatinee on Vimeo.

Dead Confederate~Yer' Circus from LaundroMatinee on Vimeo.

And last but certainly not least, everyone's friend, The Ice Cream Man, recently came down for Athfest 09. Here is a link to an excellent video he and his friends made. Definitely check it out. (sorry, there's no option to embed it). It is worth it, if only for the crazy guy in the end credits.

We have been in and out, visiting friends and family, working, etc. When we are at home, the creative juices flow.
To the right is Hardy working on a new tune.. To the left, is a table Walker has been working on.

All of us have been kicking around new music ideas everyday. We are looking forward to recording our next album sometime in the winter. Until then, see y'all at them shows. (keep up with our schedule of shows here)

Update/ Vote for DC/ "Diamond Sea"

We're staying busy writing and recording demos over the summer. Festival season is perfect for that (since we're not on the road 24/7). I'm enjoying seeing our next album come together. So, that's pretty much what's up with us right now.

Dead Confederate was nominated for Best Rock Band, Album of the Year, and both of our videos were nominated for Best Video over at Athens' Flagpole Music Awards. Click here to vote. You can write us in for other categories if you want, wink wink.

Thanks to truckerspeed.com for the link to this video of us covering Sonic Youth's "Diamond Sea" at SXSW. It's definitely edited down (considering the song usually goes on for about 12-20 minutes) but you get the idea.

Bottletree / Memphis / Rain

Walker...bottletree
Thanks to everyone that came out to the Bottletree in B'ham, AL on Sat.  That place is one of the coolest venues in the Southeast...hands down. They treated us like kings, as they should because we are royalty.

I'd also like to thank all the folks that stood in the rain to watch us play in Memphis on Sunday. I'm not really sure what festival we played.  I thought it was "Beale St. Music Festival" but when we played there with Dino Jr a couple weeks ago, people told me it was called "Memphis in May"....but then everyone at the festival called it "Memphis in Mud".  So, take your pick.  It was fun either way.

John has pics from both days.  Hopefully he'll put some up here cause I wanna see them too.

Sunshine

After our tour with Dinosaur Jr., we had a few days off in Anna Marie Island, FL to relax with some of Walker's relatives and get in some much needed sunshine. We played shows in Tampa and Orlando on the way back.

Walkerbeach

Walker does a damn good impression of a land-dolphin.

Cruisin

The best way to travel in southern FLA is in the back of a pickup. Juan knows what's up.

Cove

This is our "backyard" when we stay with Walker's uncle William. This particular spot in the cove inspired a lot of songs for me. I'm surprised they didn't turn out sounding like Jimmy Buffet.

Crackerbarrel

Mmmmmm... Soul food.

Rockingchair

Walker in Cracker Barrel heaven.

Now that Summer is more or less upon us, we have a handful of festival dates lined up. Here is what is confirmed so far:

May 3 2009... Beale Street Music Festival, Memphis TN
Jun 6 2009... BFD Festival, San Fransisco CA
Jun 7 2009... Independence Jam, San Diego CA
Jun 10 2009... Riverbend Festival, Chattanooga TN
Jun 26 2009... Athfest, Athens GA
Jul 11 2009...Forecastle Festival, Louisville KY
Jul 19 2009... Mile High Music Festival, Denver CO
Sep 7 2009... Bumbershoot, Seattle WA

RAWRRR... Our tour with Dinosaurs

Dinosaurjr

Yes, I have significant hearing loss after the last two tours. A Place To Bury Strangers and then Dinosaur Jr.?! Wait, what? I can't hear you. But it was completely worth it, and I would do it all over again. Dino Jr. have always been heroes to me. Finding out they are all great dudes only furthers that respect. The crew, as well, were some of the nicest guys we've ever had the pleasure of being on the road with.

Lou

Lou kicking ass in Little Rock.

Confed

John's Confederate soldier hat. Too much? Too much.

Tshirts

We just got a bunch of new shirts in. Isn't someone else supposed to unpack all these and fold them? Don't we have interns for this? No? Damnit.

Map

Lost in Mississippi. Never trust GPS!

Tight

Playing intimate rooms with Dinosaur Jr. only has one downside: We have to occasionally get creative with packing everything in on stage. Even J dropped an amp out of his setup for this Oxford, MS show. (Down to 3 or 4, I think).

Rainbow

The biggest rainbow I've ever scene. This was over the venue at our Fayetteville, AR show. Purdy.

Also of note, a new Dino Jr. video should hopefully come out in the near future. They filmed it during a portion of our tour. It is going to be AWESOME. They have pro BMX and skateboarder stunt doubles. Hilarious! An article on ESPN about the video. A video of the filming in Augusta, GA (our birthplace).

Ok, back to the Florida sunshine. I'll post again in a few days.
